ABOUT CAPS:
The Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist (CAPS) program was developed by The NAHB Remodelers of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) in collaboration with Home Innovation Research Labs, NAHB 50+ Housing Council, and AARP. The CAPS program was designed to address the growing number of consumers that will soon require these modifications.

CAPS graduates pledge to uphold a code of ethics and are required to maintain their designation by attending continuing education programs and participating in community service.
According to AARP, older home owners overwhelmingly prefer to age-in-place, which means living in your home safely, independently and comfortably, regardless of age or ability level.

Cisney & O'Donnell is a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) as certified by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). A CAPS contractor has been trained in the unique needs of the older adult population including learning about aging-in-place home modifications and solutions to common mobility barriers.

As a CAPS contractor, we work with you and your family to determine what modifications to your home could assist in letting you live in your home longer as you age. This often includes creating a barrier-free living space so that a person using a walker or wheelchair can access key areas easily.

Home modifications for aging-in-place might include:

  • Modifications that help you get in and out of your home safely
  • Options for using stairways
  • Bathroom modifications such as grab bars and adjusting counter top height
  • Installing a bathroom or bedroom on the first floor
  • Installation of an elevator
  • Modifications to the kitchen
